Ginny Thrasher wins first gold medal of Rio Olympics

RIO DE JANEIRO–Ginny Thrasher, a 19 year old American shooter from Springfield,Virginia, won the first gold medal of the Rio Olympics, after an upset in the women’s 10-meter air rifle event this morning.  Thrasher beat Du Li of China in the final round with a total of 208.0, setting a new Olympic record in the finals. Thrasher is an NCAA champion competing in her first Olympics. Du Li won Silver and Yi Siling of China took bronze in the first medal ceremony in Rio.
