Broward County, Florida–A swimmer is being treated after being infected by a brain eating amoeba while swimming in a private body of water in South Florida. The swimmer, whose name is not being released, is being treated for Naegleria Fowlerii, which has a 97% fatality rate. Swimmers are usually infected when an amoeba enters their nose and travels to the brain. This type of amoeba can be found in warm freshwater, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
