Nashville Police Officer Charged with DUI

Nashville, Tennessee–Midtown Hills Precinct Officer Howard R. Martin is under administrative investigation as the result of his arrest today on charges of DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to provide information, and possession of a handgun while under the influence. Martin, 41, an 11-year Metropolitan Nashville Police Department veteran, was off-duty and driving a Jeep Cherokee at 3:45 a.m. when he struck a parked vehicle, a mailbox and a trashcan in the 3700 block of Whitland Avenue. Martin left the scene, turned left on Leonard Avenue and traveled half way down the block before stopping. When officers made contact with Martin, they noticed that he smelled of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet. Inside the console of the Jeep was a pistol personally owned by Martin. Martin was released from jail after posting an $8,500 bond.
