Charlottesville, Virginia– Charlottesville and Albemarle County officials have declared a local state of emergency which allowed local officials to request additional resources to respond to the ongoing events in downtown Charlottesville. After a car plowed through protesters, one person is deceased and nineteen were injured in the incident, according to the Charlottesville Police Department’s Facebook Page. The Virginia National Guard has been activated to assist local law enforcement officers in their effort to restore order. In response to the tragic events, President Donald Trump tweeted, “What is vital now is a swift restoration of law and order and the protection of innocent lives.” UPDATE: Officials are now reporting that a Virginia State Police Helicopter has crashed near Charlottesville. The crash happened around 5 p.m. in a wooded area on Old Farm Road according to the The Daily Progress reports.
