KNOXVILLE, Tennessee. — Senior Anna Newell and former Vol Lucia Polo are two of 362 golfers headed to Rancho Mirage, California, for Stage I of LPGA Tour Qualifying School.
The Stage I tournament runs Thursday, August 24 through Sunday, August 27 at Mission Hills Country Club where the field will be cut after 54 holes of play. The cut number will be determined prior to the start of play, but all players who complete three rounds will receive Symetra Tour status for the 2018 season.
The first-stage qualifier is open to 2017 Symetra Tour members who are not ranked or are ranked outside of the top 150 on the 2017 Symetra Tour Official Money List through the PHC Classic. All amateur and professional players (who are not current LPGA Tour members) not ranked or ranked outside of the top 400 on the Rolex World Rankings as of August 7 are also eligible to compete.
A minimum of the top 60 players plus ties from Stage I will advance to Stage II. The second stage of Q-School will be held Thursday, October 19 through Sunday, October 22 in Venice, Florida. The top 80 players and ties will advance to Qualifying School Stage III while all other players who complete 72 holes will receive Symetra Tour status (based on finish) for the 2018 season.
Former Vol Erica Popson automatically qualified for Stage II due to her 36th place ranking on the 2017 Symetra Tour Official Money List. Symetra Tour members ranked 1-150, plus those tied for 150th place, are eligible to play in the second stage.
